Ladies Football

St Judes entered their first team in Juvenile Football in 1997 at Under 12 Division 2. The formation of this team was in response to representations by local teacher Peter Lucey who had gathered a starry panel of players at Bishop Galvin School and was anxious that they continue at Club level.

In 1999 the section grew when teams were entered at Under 10, 12 and 14 levels. The following season saw the introduction of a team at Under 16 level. From small beginnings in 1997 the Juvenile Ladies section of the Club now caters for over 100 people. During this period St Judes has enjoyed considerable success on the field of play.

Adult Section
The first Adult Ladies’ team competed in 1996. The team was made up of young girls from the Parish and surrounding areas, many of whom had no previous football experience. They fielded for five years despite having a very tight panel and surviving the loss of players to exams, work and Australia at various times. In 2002 the girls of the previous year and some Under 16 players joined the Senior panel. They competed in the Senior Division 4 League and finished in second place, earning promotion to Division 3 for the current year.

The commitment and dedication continued over the years despite slipping back down to Division 4. However just recently in September 2008, St Judes’ Ladies again secured their place in Division 3, following a comprehensive win over bitter rivals Scoil Ui Chonaill in Clontarf. It was very evident that the hard training and preparation which everyone had committed over the course of the season had come to the fore.

Our hopes for the future are high with a steady supply of well trained players coming through from under age. We hope for many successes in this fastest growing of sports.
